What we do
As an incubator for innovative ideas, Design+Health encourages students across all disciplines to develop and implement design solutions that address clinical and public health concerns.
By supporting student and faculty research initiatives, we seek to couple design solutions with rigorous scientific investigations in order to demonstrate measurable outcomes and facilitate applications in healthcare.
Through our combined course, we aim to foster an interdisciplinary culture that embraces the relationship between design and health and to empower students to serve as advocates for improved health outcomes via design.
We are always excited to bring new Brown and RISD students into our team. From design and art, to engineering, to medicine, students from any background have something important and unique to add to our group, and we welcome anyone with a drive to tackle challenging problems from novel perspectives.
Mentors from the worlds of art, design, engineering, and medicine help to form the bedrock of our course. From introducing new prospective projects to offering mentorship to our unique group of students throughout the semester, we always welcome the time and talents of any experts interested in collaborating with our team.
Our relationships with organizational and industry partners have helped to ground our design projects in the realities presently facing design and medicine. If your organization is facing a challenge that a team of motivated designers and medical students can push forward, or are interested in partnering with our group more generally, don't hesitate to contact us.

From personal protective equipment for physicians to reimagining electronic medical records, our groups of medical and design students have created a fantastic array of work over the three years since the collaboration's beginnings. Below are a few selected examples.
